Beyond the Mask: The Reclamation of Me
Last year I made the intentional, deliberate choice to change my name to Taelynna Rowan.
I did it to match the life I wanted to build for myself. My name is a reclamation of my inner self, coming home to who I truly am.
Czech Studios was started with the same goal: to reclaim my life.
The Weight of “Acceptable”
For years, I lived a life shaped by the expectations of other people. I warped my path over and over, trying to fit into something society would deem “acceptable”. From the clothes I wore to my decade-long career as a teacher, everything was curated to fit a norm that wasn't mine.
All of those expectations were a physical weight I wore on a daily basis until I couldn’t anymore. My body broke down and I was forced to stop. When I tried to mask my truth to appear "normal," my body simply stopped functioning. I shut down, my voice stopped working, my body flooded with panic and I couldn’t move or think clearly anymore. My body forced me to stop—not because I had failed, but because I was trying to live a story that wasn't mine.

Finding Myself With a Paint Brush
I turned to art to help ground me and I found myself beneath the layers of paint.
Art brought me peace and self-acceptance through daily grounding practices. Journaling helped me reflect and figure out what I truly wanted for my life. What I realized was that helping myself, and helping others through art is what makes me feel the most aligned with my values.
Shortly after I created Czech Studios with my husband, Ben. It is a space for healing and a sanctuary for others to use art to make their own lives—and the world around them—more loving and beautiful.
Czech Studios is an artistic ideal: that we all deserve to live authentically and creatively. Art is mental health awareness; it is the foundation for a more empathetic society.
The Vision Ahead for Czech Studios
Today, I explore my own creativity, working on mulling watercolor paints that shimmer and glow, creating intuitive paintings that help ground me and dream of a better future. I get to share this grounding process with others through workshops and now I have the opportunity to shine a light on my art and the art of the community around me.
May 16th isn’t just about art, it’s a celebration of a more vibrant life. Vibrant Visions is about a gathering of individuals who are choosing to build a more beautiful, accepting world together. I am so excited to show you what that looks like!
