The Declaration for Unity in a Divided World

When I set out to write this piece, I was grappling with the deep divisions and challenges we face as a society. I found myself turning to the powerful language of our founding documents as a means of satire against our current regime. Their misunderstanding of the principles of our founding documents -not to separate, but to unite- inspired more than a desire to mock what is wrong with the current politics of our country though, and built a true fire of desire for real change. What follows is a declaration for a new era, a statement of principles for a more equitable and loving future. I invite you to read it not as a passive observer, but as a potential signatory to a new movement.

The unanimous declaration of one human, when in the course of one's life, it becomes necessary to choose a better future or risk annihilation at the hands of devolved children, and to assume the power granted to us, as a human, to evolve past that which would cause further harm, to a more aligned and loving future, a decent respect to the growing of a movement requires that they should declare the causes which impel them to step forward into the light.


We hold these truths to not be self-evident, that all humans are created equally. Rather, the shared principles of equality, life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness are truths we must actively forge. For though endowed with the capacity for life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness, the realization of these inalienable rights requires a conscious and collective effort. We must, as one people, actively teach and embody the truth of our shared place on this earth and demand these rights for all, not through equality, but through equity, so we may all pursue life, liberty and happiness. We cannot, and shall not, ignore the lessons of the past in our pursuit of a better future.


“Whenever any Form of government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or to abolish it, and to institute a new Government, layering its foundation on such principles and organizing its power in such form, as to them shall seem most likely to effect their Safety and Happiness,” 

Prudence, indeed, has dictated that our young government put in place safety mechanisms committed to ensuring its endurance through the test of youth. Yet, these safety mechanisms have been toppled, allowing a long train of abuses to infect the spirit of a young, vulnerable country, once full of hope, now with its people impoverished, in chains, and forcibly removed without due right from this land. It is the right of the People who realize their inalienable rights to demand the spirit of their country be tested, and to demand an evolution to a society that will allow them their fundamental rights from birth.


Let this fact be submitted to a candid world.


We are all humans, worthy of equity in the pursuit of a quality life, liberty, and happiness.


A History of Repeated Injuries and Usurpations


And yet, our history, under the current leader, is a history of repeated injuries, marked by a steadfast refusal to acknowledge those very harms. Even when directly called upon to account for these trespasses, he has met such appeals with outrage and denial, speaking out against the just demand that he redress the wrongs he himself committed.


He has consistently acted without accountability for his actions, and our government, by its inaction and complicity, has allowed him impunity to operate as he sees fit. This unchecked power has extended even to the most egregious acts, including the unfettered license to target political rivals.


Grievances Against Humanity and Dignity


He has committed acts of cruelty and separation against our fellow humans, denying their inherent right to dignity and belonging.


He has sanctioned the forcible removal and deportation of immigrants, tearing families apart without due process or regard for their humanity.


He has condoned the snatching of individuals from their homes and even children from their schools, based on arbitrary accusations and fueled by fear, sowing terror in our communities.


Grievances Against Economic Justice and Well-being


He has systematically enriched the privileged few at the expense of the many, perverting the very purpose of governance.


He has granted exorbitant tax benefits to the wealthy and powerful, enabling the accumulation of vast fortunes while the majority struggle.


He has used his influence to disproportionately enrich vested commercial interests, prioritizing corporate greed over the well-being of the citizenry.


He has stripped away essential benefits and safeguards from the impoverished, widening the chasm between the opulent and the desperate.


Grievances Against Public Good and Opportunity


He has undermined the foundations of public good and universal opportunity, betraying the trust placed in government.


He has withdrawn vital funding from our public schools, diminishing the promise of education and limiting the potential of future generations.


He has cloaked these destructive policies under the guise of "making America great again," when in truth, his actions only serve the narrow interests of a select few, neglecting the fundamental needs of all.


He has demonstrated that this is not a government that serves all human beings, disregarding the inherent rights and choices of a people who, according to our own laws, have chosen their government.


A Call for Unification and Evolution


Our pleas for reconciliation and our warnings against disunity have been met with repeated violence against human beings, leaving our world ablaze. The perilous path forged by leaders who cling to division, like our current president, offers no future save annihilation.


Therefore, we must now hold these truths to be eminently teachable: that all humans are born with the inherent right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness—a right we must now, as one unified people, demand into universal existence for the betterment of all. We unequivocally reject the destructive choice of mutual harm, born of the desperate struggle for a privileged few. We, the people, do now solemnly commit to consciously rewriting our path forward, forging a world where every individual is born into the full and unconditional realization of these fundamental rights.
